Exposing the Illusions in Food Labels Horseradish Edition
Exposing the Illusions in Food Labels: Horseradish Edition
I'm standing in Publix trying to accomplish something that should be incredibly simple:
Buy horseradish.
That's it.
Horseradish.
But once I start turning the jars around and reading the ingredient labels, things get interesting.
Different brands.
Different ingredient lists.
Natural flavoring.
Extra ingredients I wasn't looking for.
And suddenly I'm comparing labels just to find the simplest jar of horseradish on the shelf.
Then I find Gold's.
Horseradish.
Vinegar.
Salt.
That's much closer to what I was looking for.
And that's really my point with this video.
TURN THE PACKAGE AROUND.
Don't make your decision based entirely on the pretty label on the front.
Read what's actually in the food you're buying.
Compare brands.
Ask questions.
And then decide for yourself what you want to eat.
Personally, when I've got two products sitting next to each other and one has a long ingredient list while the other contains a few simple ingredients I recognize, you already know which direction I'm probably going.
Read your labels, folks.
Sometimes the most interesting part of the package is on the back.
