Conversation at The Montgomery County Antique Tractor and Engine Club
One of the best parts about going to antique tractor and engine shows isn't just seeing the old machinery.
It's meeting the people who keep this history alive.
I got talking with the assistant vice president of the Montgomery County Antique Tractor and Engine Club about the club, antique tractor shows, and how different the tractor-show culture can be depending on where you are in the country.
He's originally from Wisconsin.
I'm originally from Ohio.
So naturally, a couple of transplanted Yankees ended up standing around in Tennessee talking about tractors. 😂
Up north, some of these antique tractor and farm equipment shows can attract thousands of people, with huge memberships and generations of families coming out to see the machinery.
That got us talking about agriculture in Montgomery County and why the antique tractor community here has a different scale.
But big or small, I love that these clubs still exist.
They're preserving old tractors, engines, farm equipment, mechanical knowledge, and a piece of American agricultural history that could otherwise disappear.
And the machinery is only part of it.
It's the people.
They know the stories behind these machines.
They know how they work.
They know how to keep them running.
And they're willing to share that knowledge with the next person who comes along and asks a question.
That's how you keep history alive.
