The Wood Mizer Timber to Treasure
The Wood-Mizer: Timber to Treasure
This is how you turn an old log into something beautiful.
I'm watching a Wood-Mizer sawmill at work, and this brings back memories for me because we had about 150 acres of woods.
I actually considered getting one of these.
The idea is pretty simple:
Instead of looking at a tree only as raw timber, a sawmill lets you turn that log into individual boards that can eventually become furniture, cabinets, flooring, woodworking projects, or other finished products.
Depending on the species, quality, dimensions, and market, processing a valuable log into usable lumber can potentially add considerable value.
And watching the Wood-Mizer do it is pretty impressive.
The blade travels right through the log, and this one appears to be preset to cut boards about an inch thick.
One pass.
Another board.
Reset.
Another pass.
And before long, that old log starts looking like a stack of beautiful lumber.
That's what fascinates me.
You start with something that looks like an ordinary log.
Cut into it...
And suddenly you discover the grain, colors, and character that have been hiding inside.
From timber to treasure.
Pretty cool.
