5 Things You Need To Be Successful
I'm sitting in Nashville, it's about 100 degrees in the shade, I've got a Fat Bottom Betty cigar, and apparently the heat got me thinking. 😂
Here's what I realized:
Your not-to-do list can be every bit as important as your to-do list.
And if you're trying to become more successful, I think there are a handful of basic things most people completely overlook while they're searching for the latest strategy, course, app, or shortcut.
1. Take Care of Your Body
It starts with sleep and what you eat.
If you're exhausted, feel terrible, and can't think clearly, you're putting yourself at a disadvantage before your workday even starts.
I've become extremely particular about my food and personally eat mostly carnivore and keto.
You don't have to eat the way I eat.
The bigger lesson is to pay attention to what you're putting into your body, learn what works for you, get enough sleep, and quit treating your health like something you'll worry about someday.
Your ability to think, work, make decisions, and take care of the people around you depends on it.
2. Pay Attention to Your Environment
Who are you spending your time with?
Are they building things?
Learning?
Improving themselves?
Starting businesses?
Solving problems?
Or are they spending every day complaining about why nothing works?
Your environment matters.
I want to be around people who know things I don't know.
In fact, I generally don't want to be the smartest person in the room.
If I am, I either need to be teaching or I probably need to find another room.
3. Never Stop Learning and Teaching
Teaching is one of the best ways I've found to learn something.
When you have to explain an idea so somebody else can actually understand and use it, you're forced to organize what you know.
That's why I'm constantly learning, testing things, talking to business owners, and sharing what works.
AI has made this even more interesting.
Everybody is talking about AI right now, but an enormous number of businesses still haven't actually integrated it into what they do.
That's opportunity.
4. Don't Forget the Old Stuff That Still Works
At iQEverything.com and iQMarketers.com, we're doing high-end AI and digital marketing.
But here's something people forget:
Analog still works.
Talk to people.
Listen to people.
Carry business cards.
Use QR codes.
Send postcards.
Send mailers.
Build a network.
Tell people what you do and, more importantly, how you can help them.
You don't have to abandon everything that worked before AI just because AI exists.
Combine the old stuff that works with the new stuff that works.
That's a hell of a combination.
5. Figure Out How to Serve More People
This might be the biggest one.
I've always believed that if you genuinely help enough people, the money has a funny way of following.
I've helped businesses with websites for almost nothing because I knew that if I could help them start making money, eventually they might need more from us.
Sometimes that turns into a marketing client.
Sometimes it doesn't.
That's okay.
Don't approach every interaction asking, "What can I get out of this person?"
Ask:
"How can I help?"
The more people you can genuinely serve, the more valuable you become.
And value creates opportunity.
So if I had to boil this entire cigar-fueled Nashville rant down, it would be pretty simple:
Sleep better.
Eat better.
Pay attention to your environment.
Surround yourself with people who are leveling up.
Keep learning.
Teach what you know.
Serve more people.
And don't sit around waiting for somebody to rescue you.
There's an incredible amount of chaos in the world right now.
But where there's chaos, there's opportunity.
Get your act together, take care of yourself and yours, and then go help as many people as you possibly can.
That's a pretty damn good success plan.
